BritishAmerican Business – Policy Snapshot March 2018

March was an important month for BAB’s policy work, spanning both sides of the Atlantic.

On March 5th we launched the 2018 edition of BAB’s Policy Agenda publication which will guide our work for the year ahead. The publication covers 10 areas that we identified as priorities for the transatlantic trade and investment environment, and span the interests and activities of our members. As we can see with recent developments in the field of data flows, financial services, Brexit (transition), transatlantic trade and migration (Interim MAC report on EEA workers in the UK); we are on the right track and our voice is being heard.

Also, whilst anxiety remains for transatlantic business over the end result of Brexit; optimism grows among transatlantic businesses in the UK. This is also in the context of continued positive momentum about UK-US economic relations that lie at the heart of our work.

This month, we were delighted to support the 1st session of the UK-US SME Dialogue in Washington, D.C., which was organised ahead of the 3rd meeting of the UK-US Trade and Investment Working Group.

In New York, we hosted UK Secretary of State for International Trade, Liam Fox, and in London BAB was pleased to host Assistant Secretary for Business and Economic Affairs, Manisha Singh, for her only business engagement in the UK. We also hosted Congressional delegations from both the House and Senate and organised an expert briefing for members on an issue we hear a lot about, Rules of Origin.

Launch of Policy Agenda 2018

BAB was proud to launch our 2018 Policy Agenda publication, titled ‘Strength and Opportunity in a Time of Change’.

The Policy Agenda is BAB’s flagship policy document, distributed to over 1000 leading policy makers and businesses across the UK and the US. It covers 10 areas BAB identifies as being of great importance to the environment for trade and investment between the USA and the UK.

This year’s publication covers the US and UK perspectives on the areas of; Brexit, UK-US Trade and Investment, Mobility of Talent, Infrastructure, Tax, Data, Cyber Security, Financial Services, Internet of Things and FinTech.

While there are some areas of challenge, there are even more areas of opportunity for both the UK and US to work together and achieve the shared goal of strengthening the relationship between both countries.
